The increased adoption of cloud services is expected to create more than 15,800 jobs across the sultanate by 2024, according to a new research by International Data Corporation (IDC).

The IDC is a premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets.

Its study finds that spending on public cloud services in Oman is expected to rise nearly 3.4 times, from approximately RO6.5mn in 2019 to RO22.4mn in 2024.

The IDC’s whitepaper discusses the impact that IT, cloud services, and the Microsoft ecosystem will have on Oman’s economy during the 2019–2024 period. It builds on over a decade of analysis around the economic impact of IT on local economies.

The report finds that together with investments in public, private and hybrid cloud solutions, the Omani economy will enable businesses to generate nearly RO387mn in net new revenues over the next five years.
